Fire stopping at ceiling and partition junctions: what FMs should check

Many commercial snag lists stall at the junction between partitions and suspended ceilings. Fire stopping that looked fine on a photo can fail inspection if the detail does not match the tested system.

What to check before you sign off

  • Partition heads are sealed to the correct line — slab, soffit or ceiling void barrier as specified
  • Service penetrations through the head track have suitable seals
  • Ceiling voids are not left as uncontrolled pathways between compartments
  • Handover photos and product data sheets are filed in the O&M pack

Why one lining specialist helps

When partition walls and suspended ceilings are installed under one supervisor, abutments are detailed together instead of being argued about at the end of the job.

Common North of England scenarios

Cat B cellular offices, tenant demising walls and corridor upgrades all create head-of-wall details that building control will ask about. We build to tested systems and document the work for landlords and principal contractors.
